I Miss Vlogging | New York

While in NYC I was all over Instagram stories. Seriously, I probably annoyed people. Ever since Adam started vlogging and I started making some videos I have really found the joy in documenting days.

Processed with VSCO with a6 presetI had attempted to do Vlogmas 2016, but failed miserably because I just couldn’t find the time with taking care of Greyson. (and taking care of him is my favourite, I don’t say that negatively) I have this problem where I think if something can’t be exactly the way I pictured it originally I just think I can’t do it at all. So, my first attempt at vlogging didn’t work, so to me that means I can’t vlog at all! Not true. I am so sad that I didn’t vlog in New York, I had the most amazing time with one of my besties and we had so many great and hilarious moments. Some of which are captured on Insta-stories, but those fade away after 24 hours! If I had vlogged I could have put together a few great videos to have those memories forever.

Processed with VSCO with s2 presetI am not trying to make just a complaining blog post here, I guess I am just telling myself hey you’re allowed to vlog just once in awhile! And also, maybe if there are things other moms or people in general think they don’t have time for maybe there is time it just has to be in a Β different way then you originally thought!

Processed with VSCO with a6 presetSo, let’s look forward to the rest of 2017, making time for things you love in a way that makes sense, and maybe that means some more With Stripes vlogs. πŸ™‚

Calling All Gossip Girl Fans | New York

Gossip Girl is one of my all time favourite shows, all for the fashion, New York setting, and Blair Waldorf shenanigans. When Bianka and I were in NYC we stumbled upon quite a few Gossip Girl famous locations, so I thought I’d share those with you!

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

Location One: Dan Humphrey’s loft. Located right in DUMBO Brooklyn, this sweet view is all over Instagram so it was very cool to see it in person! Also, DUMBO is one of our favourite places we went it’s definitely worth the trip over. We chose to subway it there and then walked the Brooklyn Bridge back to the city!

Location Two: Chuck and Blair’s wedding location. This is in Central Park, it was absolutely stunning, but unfortunately this is the best photo I could get as there was a live music performance going on at the time!

Location Three: The iconic Met Steps. I was so happy we went over to see these, we didn’t actually go to the museum as this was the end of a verrrrrry long day of walking, but it was a beautiful area of the city to be! Also, these cutie girls from Japan came up to us asking to take pictures with us and telling us how they were such big GG fans too! Lol.

Location Four: Chuck Bass’s Empire Hotel! This we came across completely by accident on a long walk back to our hotel on our last night. One of the things I love about New York is that you can walk anywhere and come across something cool or something famous, it’s everywhere!

There are many more GG sites to see, but these are just the few that were in areas we were checking out! Thanks for reading, guys! XOXO πŸ˜‰

Stripes And The City | New York

Hello, lovelies! Sorry it’s been a minute, hope you all are well.

I recently went on a girls trip with one of my best friends (@bianka_bt) to New York City! It was super fun and if you want to see a bunch of snaps from it head over to my Instagram: @withstripes. I have a few posts I want to share with you all from our quick trip to the big apple, and today I am going to start with a simple outfit post!

Did you guys know I liked a good striped shirt? Well, if you didn’t already catch on, I have a major love for all things striped! I also have a love for very simple, maybe some would even say tom boyish outfits.

Processed with VSCO with a6 presetThis outfit I wore on one of our NYC days is my style to a tee. The simple long sleeved striped top, the ripped high wasted jeans, converse, cool sunnies, and my dressy coat. Might seem like an odd mix to wear, but it is truly the look I feel most comfortable and most myself in. Any outfit that fits into these guidelines is a winner for me.

Processed with VSCO with a6 presetThis shirt was a double winner for me, stripes and says New York, how perfect! Also fun fact we took these photos on the street that has Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment on it in West Village!

Processed with VSCO with a6 presetI have a few more NYC related posts coming your way, with a bit more details about our trip, so keep your eyes peeled for that! Thanks for reading as always guys! You’re the best.

Fangirl OOTD

Yes, we all know I am the BIGGEST YouTube fan girl! Okay, well if you didn’t know…now you do. I love YouTubers so much, I honestly barely watch regular T.V. (besides This Is Us and The Bachelor, obviously) My sister got me into watching them when I lived in Vancouver, so about 3 years ago, and the obsession has only grown stronger ever since. I can’t really tell you why watching people film their everyday lives, or talk about skincare products is so fascinating to me, but it is! And if you’ve never tried watching it, I suggest you do, you may be surprised.

Processed with VSCO with a6 presetAnyyyywaaaaay, some of the bigger YouTubers bring out merch sometimes, because people like me are suckers for that kind of thing! Alfie and Zoe (or, Zalfie) are Adam and I’s absolute favourite YouTubers! Alfie daily vlogs, so Adam and I always watch him every evening, and Zoe does usually one video a week but sometimes vlogs as well! We honestly wish we could be best friends with them, because we are weirdos and just think that should happen! Plus they are British, and if you know Adam and I, everything about England is our dream!

Processed with VSCO with a6 presetLong story short, Zoe and her brother Joe (who is also has an awesome channel) have recently brought out some merch, so of course I had to order something.

Processed with VSCO with a6 presetI went for this cool black tee with copper writing, I am such a jeans and tee shirt kind of girl so this actually fit in with my wardrobe very well. Super comfy, super cool, and I just love the Suggs they make me so happy, so I am happy to support their stuff.

Processed with VSCO with a6 presetDo any of you watch YouTubers, I’d love suggestion for who to check out! Hope you’re all having a lovely week so far. Thank you for reading!

Ice Castles | YEG

As I have mentioned in a previous post I really have taken it on to find all the fun and cool places to go in Edmonton. When you really take the time to get to know a city, it’s amazing the places you’ll find even if it’s somewhere you’ve lived basically your whole life.

Last winter I saw that the Edmonton Ice Castles were open in Hawrelak Park but sadly didn’t make it to them! This year I was like I NEED to go check it out. So, we did! Last Sunday, and they are magical.

Processed with VSCO with s2 presetI don’t have too much to say as the photos speak for themselves, but it is very cool to walk through this structure completely made from icicles. If you are in Edmonton or surrounding areas I highly highly recommend going. (We went during the day, obviously, but if you choose to go at night they are all lit up as well!)

Baby, It’s Still Cold Outside

Brrrrrrr, guys! Edmonton is freezing these days. I don’t know about where you live, but where I live it was -21 today! I love winter, but that is quite cold. However it is the season of layering which is my favourite fashion, so I won’t complain, too much!

I thought this evening I would share a list of my favourite winter essentials with you all! Not much else to say about it, so let’s just jump right in!

Processed with VSCO with s2 preset

A hydrating face mask. I have the driest skin ever, so I like to pay my face a little bit extra attention when the temperatures are this low. (personal favourites: glam glow thirsty mud, origins drink up intensive overnight mask , fresh black tea instant perfecting mask )

Sweaters, duh! Sweater weather is the best weather, so I definitely like to cozy up in a sweater all winter long. (and spring and summer and fall, because lets be honest I’m always cold)

A heated blanket. These are a game changer, I never had one until I moved in with Adam. He brought a heated blanket, and I am forever thankful to him for that! I like to turn it on about half an hour before we go to bed so it’s nice and toasty when you crawl in.

A good lip balm (personal favourites: kiehls lip balm #1 , first aid beauty ultra repair intensive lip balm, elizabeth arden eight hour cream)

Bath bombs (lush, always) because when it’s cold outside there is nothing like being in a hot bath.

Regular blankets πŸ˜‰ for Christmas I received a blanket that is a baby blanket but for an adult…and as you’ve guessed it’s the softest coziest thing ever.

Comfy clothes! I recently got a “Sunday Romper” from smashtess.com and lets just say I live in it everyday of the week.

Obviously a good toque, scarf, and pair of mittens.
Slippers!

If you live in cold, I suggest investing in a proper winter jacket! I did a couple years ago, and I have never regretted it.

New favourites for me personally is cuddling Greyson, and of course Jewels! Nothing like snuggling a baby or furry puppy while watching the snow fall outside.

That’s all for now, or all that came to mind right away! Tell me some of your winter essentials in the comments. πŸ™‚ As always, thanks for reading!

My Nighttime Skincare Routine

Processed with VSCO with s2 preset

I think washing my face is one of my favourite parts of the day, is that sad? Maybe lol. But, it’s true! It’s something I make time for every single day, and if I ever happen to miss it I’m truly sad over it. Obviously it is important to take care of your skin, but it is also important to take care of YOU in whatever way that is. For me having a few minutes to myself at the end of the night to wash my face (whether I am wearing make-up or not) is that time. I always feel refreshed, and I find such joy in going through the routine each night before bed. I use to be in a pattern of getting home from work around 5 and if I didn’t have plans for the evening I would take my make-up off right away before dinner but now I don’t normally get around to it until Greyson is in bed for the night. So now it is usually how I end each day, get Grey to sleep, wash my face, crawl into bed (with the heated blanket cranked to high because it is FREEZING in Alberta) and off to bed I go!

My product line-up is forever evolving, as I am always up to trying something new! But, this routine is one I have been using consistently since about September (some products longer). As I am a true skincare junkie I definitely do use some items at a higher price point, but there are TONS of products I love from the drugstore too, and am open to sharing products I like to use in a future post if anyone is interested. πŸ™‚ I have just found the value personally in investing my beauty budget in my skincare rather then other items! But, everyone has there own thing.

With all that said, let’s hope into my routine!

Processed with VSCO with s2 preset

Step One: Remove my eye make-up with Bioderma. This is one of my all time favourite products that I have repurchased over and over again! (Cheaper alternatives that are also amazing the Garnier Micellar Water, and the Simple Micellar Water)

Step Two: Remove face make-up/first cleanse with Sunday Riley Blue Moon Cleansing Balm. I love me a good cleansing balm and this one does the job very well! This product was new to me in September but I will definitely re-purchase!

Step Three: Cleanse my skin with the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser. I am a big fan of this product, it is so gentle but really makes your skin feel so clean, and it smells like cucumbers which is a big bonus for me! Smells like a clean spa.

Processed with VSCO with s2 preset

Step Four: Sunday Riley Good Genes Treatment, I use this as a serum however the bottle says you can also use it as a treatment where you would apply more and then wash off after a little while. I personally use it every night as a serum and leave it on the whole night. This product absolutely changed my skin, and is what made me fall in love with Sunday Riley Β as a brand, and really see the value in a good skincare line up. I feel like whenever I use this people ask me what I have been using on my skin, it’s a game changer for sure!

Step Five: Applying a beauty oil! Normally this is where I use my Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Oil which is a personal fav, but for Christmas I was kindly gifted the Luna Oil by Sunday Riley, so I have been using it since then. It’s a gorgeous product, extremely blue which can be scary when you use it for the first time, but don’t worry it won’t dye your skin blue! I have only been using it a couple weeks, but lately my husband keeps touching my face and telling me how soft my skin is so I guess it’s working!

Step Six: Time for eye cream, and I have been using the Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado for about 2 years now and I have yet to find anything I like better! This little pot is about $35.00, but it will last you FOREVER as you only need a little bit each time.

Step Seven: Okay I know this is a lot of steps, but I’m telling you there is something so relaxing about going through a process like this every night! Or, I am just a crazy skincare product lady. I am okay with that too. Lastly for my face, I apply a moisturizer, I like to let the oil sink in for a few minutes first and then add this. Tidal by Sunday Riley is my favourite moisturizer of 2016 and is carrying through to 2017. However any gel moisturizer is really what I am looking for, I like the light weight formula and the cooling affect it gives. It’s the nicest.

Now, I would also like to add that while it is important to take care of your face, the rest of your skin needs attention too! So that leads me to this next routine…

Lips, feet, hands, and body!

Processed with VSCO with s2 preset

Step Eight: Lip balm! If you live in cold temperatures you feel me on this I’m sure. Alberta is cold and dry. Dry and cold. All the time. That can lead to some very dry and cracked lips if you don’t take care of them! I apply so much lip balm every night. This one by First Aid Beauty I love, but really any heavy duty lip balm will do the trick.

Step Nine: Is anyone else really bad at remembering to moisturize their whole body? For some reason I am all over it with the face skincare but I always forget hey maybe your arms and legs would like some attention too… I was really on top of it when I was pregnant, and I am still trying to keep that effort going strong! I like anything that is a body butter since I have such dry skin. I normally just go for a Body Shop one, but recently have been trying out this Josie Maran one, and I really like it! Plus it smells like lavender which is delightful right before bed time.

Step Ten: I had a pedicure recently and the girl doing it was like uhhh I think you need to give your heels some love. She was right, they are normally a cracked mess. Alberta weather, I’m telling you! So she recommended to me this Footlogix Mousse and it has been making a big difference for my poor little feet so I have added it to the routine! It’s kind of funny using a mousse for your feet, but it is nice because it absorbs so quickly and you don’t feel greasy after applying it!

Step Eleven: The final step, you still with me? HANDS. If you have read my blog a while or watched any of my YouTube videos you know me and my hands have a complicated relationship. In that, they are always dry, splitting, and hurting. I really will keep trying anything and everything until they are fixed. I was also kindly gifted this La Mer hand cream for Christmas so that is what I am currently trying! Also a winner in this area is the Aveeno Eczema Hand Cream, which is a much cheaper alternative but I like just as much!

Thank you for reading. I hope you all have a little part of your day that makes you as happy as washing my face does for me. If not, I hope you could maybe find something! It doesn’t have to be this obviously, just any small activity you can find that helps calm you and make you smile. Love you guys!
